Liverpool defender Andy Robertson receives MBE for his services to football and charity

Liverpool star Andy Robertson has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to football, charity and young people.  

The Scotland captain was pictured receiving his royal honours from Prince William during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. 

Robertson was presented with the MBE by the Prince of Wales before sharing a laugh with one another. 

The 29-year-old has enjoyed an incredible level of success since he joined the Reds from Hull for £8m back in 2017.

He has made 243 appearances for the side and won a host of major trophies, including the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League one year later.

Robertson has enjoyed tremendous success since joining Liverpool from Hull in 2017 and is now recognised as one of the best left backs in world football

Though the most recent campaign was not a successful one for Liverpool, Robertson did go on to break the record for the defender with the most assists in the history of the Premier League. 

Off the pitch, Robertson launched the AR26 charity in November 2020, which aims to provide young people in Scotland with equal access to training, support, job opportunities and free football coaching. 

Earlier this year, his now former team mate James Milner was awarded an MBE of his own for his services to football and charity. 

The 37-year-old’s eight-year stint at Anfield came to an end this summer following the expiration of his contract, with the former England international making the move to Brighton.

Jordan Henderson received an MBE back in 2021, while former Liverpool players to have received the award include Ian Rush (1996), Gary McAllister (2002) and Steven Gerrard (2007).
