Liverpool‘s talisman Mohamed Salah has refused to publicly discuss his contract dispute with the club ahead of Sunday’s clash against Manchester City.

Salah and Liverpool are thought to be locked in discussions over the wages on offer and the length of the new deal.

The Egyptian said that there were ‘many things’ people did not know about the on-going situation and insisted that he had revealed what he wanted from the new deal ‘many times’

However, Salah, who scored against City in the reverse fixture last October, said that it would be ‘selfish’ of him to discuss the situation now entering into the ‘most important period for the team’.

He told Sky Sports: ‘Honestly, what can I say is that there are many things people do not know about it [the contract situation].’

He added: ‘I can’t be selfish now and talk about my situation, we are in the most important period for the team.

‘So I have to just talk about the team [and] focus [on] what’s coming with the team and that’s the most important thing.

‘That’s what I can say. Hopefully we are going to be more optimistic and then just see what’s going to happen.’

Reports emerged this week suggesting that a breakthrough in negotiations was close, with manager Jurgen Klopp saying that he was ‘happy’ with how the talks were going between the ‘decisive parties’

Salah was asked how confident he was of an agreement being reached between him and the club.

‘I can say yes and I can say no. I said many time before about what I want but then again I cannot really go deep in the contract now,’ he said.

He added: ‘It’s a really sensitive situation. The team need to win and I can’t just be going in the news and just talking about my contract now. I just focus with the team. That’s it.’

The Premier League’s top scorer said that the noise surrounding the deal was not affecting his performances on the pitch, despite having not scored from open play since February.

The Egyptian said that the negotiations were not impacting his performance on the pitch

He said: ‘Not at all, not at all. I talk to the manager from time to time, I’m very professional, I know my job very well.

‘I’m almost [the] first one here and last one to leave [the training ground] but I know what I’m doing, so I’m not bothered about that.’

He concluded: ‘I’m just focused with the team, that’s the most important thing for me. Focussed to win trophies and I’m giving everything to the club I could.’
