Bruno Fernandes has travelled to London with his Manchester United team-mates ahead of tonight’s clash with Tottenham – despite fears the midfielder would miss the game.

Fernandes limped off in extra time during United’s penalty shootout victory over Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday with an ankle injury, raising concerns over his participation against Spurs.

He was then even pictured in a protective boot with crutches by his side on Monday in a photo shared by his wife, Ana Pinho.

Erik ten Hag had said in his pre-match press conference that there was a ‘question mark’ over his involvement in London, but in a huge boost for the Red Devils, Fernandes was pictured boarding their team coach on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday, when pressed on team news against Ryan Mason’s side, the Dutchman had said: ‘There are some unavailable — (Lisandro) Martinez, (Raphael) Varane. We have to see how Bruno Fernandes is, we don’t know yet.

‘He is a question mark. But I think for the rest, we are quite OK.

‘It’s more often that players, we protect them, prevention but it has to settle down.

‘We have seen he played a full game and it happened in the first half. But tomorrow is quick, we have to see what is possible.’

Fernandes suffered a knock in the first half of the game against the Seagulls at Wembley but had played through the pain barrier before he was eventually replaced by Wout Weghorst after 101 minutes in United’s 7-6 penalty shootout victory.

The Portuguese star – who has often stepped up as United’s skipper this season  with club captain Harry Maguire having struggled for game time – has been an integral part of the club’s rebuild under Ten Hag.

In total, Fernandes has scored 10 goals and added 13 assists across 50 appearances in all competitions.

He has remarkably missed only three games. Two for suspension against Sevilla and Aston Villa, while he was also rested for United’s 3-0 victory over Charlton in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Several other United players were pictured boarding the coach ahead of their game against Spurs.

Antony and David De Gea both looked in a good mood as the players began their journey to London which would see them fly down on the day of the game, rather than the night before.

Elsewhere, Casemiro – who has recently returned from a four-game suspension for his second record card of the season after being sent off against Southampton  –  looked in a focused mood alongside Marcus Rashford.

United are currently in fourth place, five points clear of Aston Villa in fifth – although they have played three games fewer than Unai Emery’s high-flying side.

Tottenham have since dropped to eighth and they are six points behind United having played two games more.

Spurs have endured another chaotic week in a dismal campaign after interim boss Cristian Stellini was sacked following their 6-1 thrashing by Newcastle last Sunday, with former midfielder Ryan Mason stepping up for his second spell in the hotseat.

If United are to win in north London, they would open up an eight-point gap on Villa, putting one foot in the Champions League for next season.
