Manchester United are set to make an improved £50m offer for Mason Mount THIS WEEK with Erik ten Hag’s side determined to secure the Chelsea midfielder, after their opening bid was rejected

Manchester United are expected to make an improved £50million offer for Mason Mount this week.

It comes after their initial £40m offer for the 24-year-old, whose contract at Chelsea is set to expire in the summer of 2024, was rejected on Wednesday.

Much speculation has revolved around his future at the London club for some time now, with Erik ten Hag’s side emerging as the front runners to sign the England midfielder.

Liverpool were also in the race to sign the Chelsea academy graduate, but have since dropped out, meaning it’s becoming more likely he could move to Manchester should he leave Chelsea this summer.

But it could be the end of an era for Mount, who joined the club’s academy in 2015, working his way through the ranks to break into the first team, ironically making his competitive debut in a 4-0 defeat away at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

He’d score his first goal for the senior side in a 1-1 draw against Leicester the following week, before going on to 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 appearances across all competitions for the club.

He also won the Champions League with the Blues back in 2021, playing a pivotal part in that European cup campaign, scoring twice against Porto and Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, while notably teeing up Kai Havertz for his goal against Manchester City in the final to win the title.

This season injuries have hampered the 24-year-old’s season, with Mount firstly suffering an Ankle injury back in February, before undergoing surgery back in April to remedy an abdominal problem.

He’s missed 12 premier league games this season through injury, but still managed three goals from 24 league appearances and seems to have been enjoying his time off, dying his hair bleach while also being seen on the grid at the Barcelona Grand Prix alongside his Chelsea team-mate, Ben Chilwell.

Back in February, Mail Sport reported that Chelsea had tried to offer Mount a new deal but talks between the parties had broken down

Elsewhere in London, Declan Rice is also on the cusp of a move away from West Ham, with Arsenal having a £90m offer rejected last week

Manchester United are also in the long list of clubs who are sniffing after the England midfielder’s availability.

United have also today been linked with a move for Ollie Watkins, amid talk that they will no longer be pursuing Rasmus Hojlund.
