Manchester United are closing on agreement with Atalanta for striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Talks are ongoing between the two clubs over the structure of the deal which is expected to be around £60million.
The player has the offer of a five year contract with the option of an additional year.
The Denmark international was an unused substitute for Atalanta’s 3-1 friendly win over Bournemouth on Saturday and shook hands with teammates as if bidding farewell.
Hojlund, who scored nine goals in Serie A last season, became United’s No 1 target after being priced out of a move for Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
Erik ten Hag’s side made an opening verbal offer of £42.8m plus a further £8.5m in add-ons, with Atalanta demanding more.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag has been keen to bring a new striker to the club this summer
There was refusal to meet the £86m valuation initially set by Atalanta due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.
A striker has been one of United’s top priorities this summer having strengthened in midfielder and goalkeeper after signing Mason Mount and Andre Onana respectively.
With Anthony Martial’s continued struggles with injuries, Ten Hag wants a new forward to bolster his attack and indicated this week that the club is close to securing one.
‘We’re making progress but we know how it works and when we have him, we will tell you directly,’ said Ten Hag during his press conference on United’s US tour.
‘The only thing I can say is we’ll do everything in our power to get it done. If it was up to me, yeah, as soon as possible, the earlier the better, because we have to integrate him in the team and the way we play.’
Hojlund scored 10 goals in 34 appearances for Atalanta last season, and has netted six times in six games for the Danish national team.
