Manchester United make opening £50m bid for Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund… but the Italian side want at least £60m

  • Man Utd have sent a first verbal offer to Atalanta for striker Rasmus Hojlund
  • United have offered a deal worth £51m to the Italian club for the Danish hitman
  • Hojlund is also the subject of interest from PSG but they are yet to make an offer

Manchester United have made a verbal bid worth a total of £51.4million for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund as emerged as the club’s top target in their search for a new forward after United were priced out of the race for Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen.

The club have now made their move for the 20-year-old, offering Atalanta €50m (£42.8m) plus a further €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons.

But it is thought the Serie A side, who have previously set an £86m price tag, will demand a package worth at least £60m.

United have previously indicated their refusal to meet the £86m valuation of the Danish star.

Erik ten Hag has made signing a new striker a priority this summer, so the club is as heavily reliant on Marcus Rashford, who scored 30 goals for the Red Devils last season.

With Anthony Martial’s continued struggles with injuries, Ten Hag wants a new forward to bolster his attack and indicated this week that the club is close to securing one.

‘We’re making progress but we know how it works and when we have him, we will tell you directly,’ said Ten Hag during his press conference on United’s US tour.

‘The only thing I can say is we’ll do everything in our power to get it done. If it was up to me, yeah, as soon as possible, the earlier the better, because we have to integrate him in the team and the way we play.’

Hojlund scored 10 goals in 34 appearances for Atalanta last season, and has netted six times in six games for the Danish national team.

PSG are also keen on recruiting the striker – especially if they are to lose Kylian Mbappe. However, no agreement has been made with the player and no offer had been put forward to the club from the French champions.
