The Seatle Mariners have removed Toronto Blue Jays merchandise from their team store following an outcry from players and supporters.

Ahead of the Blue Jays’ visit to T-Mobile Park this weekend, a Mariners fan spotted Blue Jays t-shirts on sale in Seattle.

That sparked anger among some of the Mariners roster, including shortspot J.P. Crawford and relief pitcher Paul Sewald.

‘What the hell is this @MarinersStore,’ Sewald wrote on Twitter. ‘Damn smh,’ Crawford said.

There had been some suggestion that the clothing was being sold in anticipation of this weekend’s series, which often draws a big travelling support from across the Canadian border.

‘The Mariners Team Store has dedicated an entire rack for Blue Jays gear ahead of this weekend’s series,’ one fan wrote alongside a picture of the merchandise.

But the Mariners have moved to reassure their players and fans that it was all a misunderstanding.

‘Following the All-Star Game we had a limited amount of leftover merchandise from different (mostly AL) teams,’ a team spokesperson told the New York Post.

‘The Blue Jays merchandise in question has now been removed from the Team Store.’

T-Mobile Park hosted the 2023 All-Star game earlier this month, with five Toronto players making the original American League roster.

Basemen Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Whit Merrifield were selected alongside shortstop Bo Bichette and pitchers Jordan Romano and Kevin Gausman.

The three-game series runs Friday night through Sunday at T-Mobile Park.
