The Denver Broncos are now in something of a re-build mode after the firing of head coach Nathaniel Hackett on Monday.
While the team’s defense has been spectacular all season, the offense failed to score and the Broncos suffered because of it. The team currently sits with a 4-11 record and are already eliminated from the playoffs.
New team co-owner and CEO Greg Penner spoke on Tuesday about the process going forward and apologized to the Denver faithful for their poor showing.
Broncos CEO Greg Penner offered an apology to the fanbase for a season below expectations
On Monday, the team fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett – with the preseason title contenders sitting at the bottom of the AFC West eliminated from the playoffs and owning a 4-11 record
‘The main message I said from the beginning is I’m sorry to the fans,’ Penner said at a press conference on Tuesday.
‘I think the frustration obviously of a number of losing seasons is high but I think this season its even higher because of the expectations that we had going in.
‘We felt like we had a lot of pieces in place to have a very successful season I know the players in this building are… we’ve got good players and we didn’t put the pieces together.
‘Our fans have been patient – I think we’ve got the best fans in the world – but we need to put a better product on the field.’
Penner said that Broncos general manager George Paton will be involved in the search process

Penner added in the press conference that he and general manager George Paton will be actively searching for a new coach – with Penner heavily involved.
Even though Penner said he has confidence in Paton, the GM put a lot of blame on his shoulders for the team’s failures this year.
‘Nathaniel is a very good football coach and he’s an even better person. It just didn’t work out, and that’s on me,’ Paton said. ‘I brought in the head coach and I brought in most of the players.’
Denver travels to Kansas City to play the Chiefs this Sunday at 1:00pm eastern time.
