Oxford’s game against Wycombe has been interrupted by a 40 minute delay after a medical emergency at the ground.

The game was stopped and players were taken off the pitch after less than 20 minutes of play so a fan could receive medical attention.

Oxford tweeted to say: ‘The thoughts of everyone at Oxford United are with the individual involved.

‘The game is due to restart at 4pm allowing both teams the opportunity to warm up again. Thank you for your continued patience.’

The club did not mention the wellbeing of the fan involved in the incident, but did thank fans again for their ‘patience and co-operation.’

Wycombe also offered their support with a tweet that read: ‘Our very best wishes to those involved.’

The match was goalless at the time of the interruption, with the sides only separated on goal difference in the League One table.

Play was resumed at 4pm, with Wycombe taking the lead through Chris Forino fifteen minutes later.

More to follow.
