Payne Haas’s contract standoff with Brisbane is over with the gun prop reportedly striking terms with the Broncos to stay at the club until 2024.

Broncos chief Dave Donaghy has confirmed to News Corp that the saga, which has run for five months, has been ‘settled’ after Haas’s management advised the superstar not to test the open market.

Earlier this year, Haas dropped a bombshell on the club by requesting an immediate release from his $3million deal, but the Broncos rejected that plea.

Haas was booed by the Broncos fans at Suncorp Stadium shortly after his position became public news, with the club stating that they would revisit the situation at the end of the season.

And now the dispute has been resolved, with the player’s management rescinding their initial plan to explore other opportunities on the open market and advising Haas to remain at Red Hill for another two years.

The U-turn is a major boost for the Broncos who are now no longer at risk of losing their star player to Sydney’s richest clubs, such as the Roosters.

‘Payne’s a really important part of our club,’ Donaghy said.

‘The contract part of it is settled, there’s a commitment in place from all sides with that.

‘We’ve got a contract in place for another two years and I know how much we both want to experience success in that time.

‘Payne had another great season and I can see him already working on hitting the ground running when pre-season starts next month.’
