Perth Scorchers have won the Big Bash League after a dramatic final at Optus Stadium.
Taking on a resurgent Brisbane Heat side aiming to make history is the first team to finish fifth in the regular season to become champions, the Scorchers were set a lofty target of 176 runs to win the competition.
Two quickfire wickets late on swung the momentum of the game in the underdogs’ favour, but young Cooper Connolly kept his cool to blast his side to victory and onset rapturous scenes at Optus.
The 19-year-old scored 25 runs off 11 balls in a match-winning innings as the Scorchers won their sixth title with four balls to spare.
