The Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Marcus Mariota have agreed on a one-year, $5 million contract, according to multiple reports.

While the NFC champions are yet to officially announce the deal, Mariota’s contract is said to be worth up to $8million, including incentives.

Mariota was released by Atlanta last month after an inconsistent sole season with the Atlanta Falcons

He will now serve as the the backup to star quarterback Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.

Mariota completed 61.3% of his passes last season for 2,219 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 13 starts for the Falcons.

He also had a career-high 438 yards rushing and four TDs. In March of 2022, Mariota signed a two-year, $18.75m deal with the NFC South franchise.

The move to Philadelphia is something of a full circle moment for Mariota. Coming out of Oregon in 2015, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, who coached Mariota at the Ducks, coveted him but couldn´t trade up to get him in the draft.

Resultantly, the Hawaiian went No. 2 overall to Tennessee, where he spent five seasons.

Mariota is 34-40 as a starter with the Falcons and Titans. He played sparingly behind Derek Carr in two seasons as backup for the Raiders in 2020-21.

Mariota replaces Gardner Minshew, who agreed to a deal with the Indianapolis Colts. Minshew reportedly agreed to a one-year, $3.5m contract with the AFC South team.
