St George Illawarra star Junior Amone was the ‘main aggressor’ in a violent attack on  a tradie last month, a court heard on Friday.

The Dragons young gun was arrested on Thursday after it was alleged he confronted two roofing contractors working near his family home in Warrawong, a suburb of Wollongong.

The 20-year-old was allegedly armed with a hammer and joined his father Talatau and a third individual in the attack and reportedly urged them to ‘Get the f***ing c**t’ as the alleged victim lay on the ground.

St George Illawarra star Junior Amone has been released on bail after being charged of attacking a roofing contractor with a hammer last month

The alleged attack left Jay King, one of the contractors, with serious injuries including broken arms and a damaged hip.

Amone was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in company and remanded in custody on Thursday, before being released on a $100,000 bail on Friday.

The charge carries a maximum of 14 years in jail.

The St George playmaker was initially formally denied bail, but Prosecutor Sergeant Chris Manning said in court on Friday that police didn’t oppose Amone’s release from custody as long as strict bail conditions were met.

Several friends and family members attended the court proceedings on Friday to support the young playmaker.

His father was also arrested over the same incident, but the bail request for Amone Senior was denied at the time and he remains in custody.

It’s alleged the attack occurred on November 15 this year near the star’s home in Wollongong on the NSW south coast.

Court documents allege King became involved in a dispute with Amone’s father about where he parked his car before both Amones and an unidentified man confronted him.

It’s alleged Junior was armed with a hammer, which he swung at the victim.

The tradesman then allegedly ran to a nearby property and climbed onto the roof to escape, but was followed by the St George five-eight, who swung the hammer at him.

Its’ alleged the victim fell off the roof as a result and struck an air-conditioning unit as he fell.  The alleged victim was chased to another home, the documents state, where he collapsed and called Triple Zero.

The documents allege a police dog squad officer arrived on the scene and saw the Dragons man on the roof, still armed with the hammer.

It’s also alleged that the younger Amone and the unknown male jumped on the roof of the tradesman’s vehicle, damaging the car and breaking the windscreen.

Amone made headlines earlier this week when footage emerged of the Dragons star fighting teammate Zac Lomax in a training ground bust up.

Vision recorded by a fan showed Lomax and Amone having to be separated after an ugly confrontation during the club’s three-day camp at Mollymook, around 200km south of Sydney

‘They are young boys who didn’t want to let one of them get over the top of the other. They don’t want anyone to get in front of them for a spot,’ Aaron Woods told the Daily Telegraph
