PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi went on a furious tirade after watching his side get eliminated at the hands of Real Madrid from yet another Champions League, according to several reports in Spain.

The French giants were dumped out in the last-16 after letting a 2-0 lead on aggregate slip away at the Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.

PSG led 1-0 early on thanks to Kylian Mbappe, but a hat-trick from Karim Benzema in the space of just 17 minutes saw Madrid seal a 3-1 victory to progress into the quarter-finals.

It was the first of Benzema’s three goals, which enraged PSG, who felt the Frenchman should have been penalised for a foul on goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the build-up.

The Qatari was said to have been seen storming through the corridors at the Bernabeu post-match, shouting and searching for match referee Danny Makkelie says Marca.

The incident was described as ‘frankly unpleasant’ by reporter Monica Marchante, according to El Partidazo de COPE

Reports from L’Equipe, suggest an excerpt from the referees’ report sent by UEFA quoted by Onda Cero, Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Leonardo: ‘Behaved aggressively and tried to enter the referee’s dressing room.

‘When the referee asked them to leave, the president hit a piece of the assistant’s equipment, breaking it.’

The PSG president, along with sporting director Leonardo reportedly ended up storming the wrong room; instead coming face to face with Real Madrid delegate, Mejia Devila.

According to Diario AS, a Madrid employee recorded the incident with his mobile, Al Khelaifi noticed it and hit his phone threatening: ‘I’m going to kill you.’

In the end, it was reported that PSG sent a protocol employee from the French club to apologise to the referees and Real Madrid.

PSG have told Sportsmail that Al Khelaifi did go to visit the referee after the match, but did not want to comment on what was said.

PSG boss Pochettino also blamed the match officials. ‘How can I explain it? It’s easy to explain. But I think the biggest mistake is from VAR for their first goal,’ he said.

‘When we conceded the nerves set in and with the sense of injustice we were too open to concede further. At 1-1 we were still through but we conceded two more.

‘Madrid had nothing to lose at 1-1 to take the game to extra-time and we could not react to the situation.’

It is not the first time that the Qatari president is said to have approached a referee during or after a match.

Following a 5-1 defeat by Lille in Ligue 1 in 2019, the PSG owner waited in the tunnel for the referee to appear before voicing his views on the level of refereeing in the country.

‘We need to raise the level of French football!’ he said. ‘We need to raise the level of French football!’
