Report compares T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T to reveal which is the best service in the US

A new report has revealed the best US cellphone carrier in the US – and more than 300 million Americans might want to consider switching.

T-Mobile was crowned the top service in a July 2023 report, beating out Verizon and AT&T in six out of eight categories, including download and upload speed, live video and game experiences, and consistency.

Verizon won the best voice app experience and AT&T took the top spot for network availability – beating the competition by 0.2 percent.

However, T-Mobile provides the fastest download and upload experience out of the three, making it the top carrier in the US.

Opensignal analyzed millions of smartphones and billion of measurements for the report that spanned from March 16 until June 13 and shared the information Wednesday.

T-Mobile has 260 million users nationwide, while Verizon has 142.8 million and AT&T has 290 million.

T-Mobile was found to have a Download Speed Experience score of 97.1Mbps, with AT&T coming next with 57Mbps – a 6.7Mbps increase from the previous report.

‘This is the fourth report in which T-Mobile wins Download Speed Experience and it has been widening its lead over its competitors every time,’ Opensignal shared n its report.

‘T-Mobile leads for Upload Speed Experience as well, beating Verizon by 3.4Mbps (up from 2.8Mbps) — and so, it wins the award outright with a score of 11.7Mbps.’

The analytics company looked at Consistent Quality for the first time, also finding T-Mobile is the best.

Consistent Quality quantifies how often users’ experience on a network is sufficient to support various more demanding common applications used for a range of everyday tasks. 

It measures download speed, upload speed, latency, jitter, packet loss, and time to the first byte. 

T-Mobile scored 79.8 percent, Verizon was 3.1 percentage points behind the winner and AT&T took third with a score of 75.2 percent.

T-Mobile was the top for Live Video Experience, scoring 47.3 out of 100, putting it 1.9 points ahead of Verizon. 

‘Live Video Experience score is made up of a range of measures that impact users’ perceived viewing experience, including e.g. initial delay, total stalling time but also live offset — the time difference between real-time and the current playback position a viewer sees,’ according to the report.

 ‘Live video measures the experience of streaming live events such as watching sports games in real-time, concerts or game streaming.’

However, Verizon did out due to T-Mobile regarding Voice App Experience – with a score of 77.4 points, only 0.1 points ahead of T-Mobile.

AT&T did hold its own regarding Availability across the US, with a score of 99.4 percent. 

AT&T’s score beats Verizon’s by 0.2 percentage points. T-Mobile comes third with a score of 98.3 percent.
