England boss Sarina Wiegman has agreed a new contract that will keep her in charge of the Lionesses until 2027 in a major boost for the FA.

The Dutch manager will gain a significant increase on her current £400,000 salary in return for committing for a further two years, as well as triggering lucrative bonuses if she adds further trophies to England’s historic European Championship win.

The 52-year-old’s new deal should ensure she leads England to the next two World Cups, as well as their defence of the European Championship in 2025.

England will be among the favourites to win next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after they followed up last summer’s triumph by beating world champions USA at Wembley on Friday evening.

Wiegman only took charge of England 13 months ago and has almost three years left on her existing contract, but such has been her effect on a squad who were struggling under Phil Neville that the FA have moved to tie her down for longer.

England are unbeaten in 23 matches under Wiegman, who also won the 2017 European Championship with her native Holland.

Negotiations over a new deal began last month and have quickly concluded, with an announcement expected sometime after England’s friendly against the Czech Republic in Brighton on Tuesday.

The FA’s move to secure Wiegman’s long-term future mirrors their treatment of men’s manager Gareth Southgate, who signed a new three-year deal after leading England to last summer’s European Championship final, despite already being under contract for the upcoming World Cup.

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham led both negotiations and has previously spoken highly of Wiegman.

‘She only signed in September but we would love her to be with us for a long time,’ Bullingham said last month.

‘I think she’s a really special person and a really special talent. I think you can see the way she’s built a brilliant culture with the team.’
