Scotland CRASH OUT of the T20 World Cup after defeat against Zimbabwe sees them fail to qualify

Scotland are out of the Twenty20 World Cup after a five-wicket defeat against Zimbabwe on Friday. 

George Munsey hit 54 in 51 balls as Scotland set their opponents a gettable total of 132, and although they started well with several quick wickets, captain Craig Ervine struck 58 off 54 and Sikandar Raza smashed 40 off just 23 to swing the momentum.

The result sees Richie Berrington’s men fail to qualify for the Super 12 group stage and a potential clash with rivals England.

Zimbabwe, Group B winners, progress to the next stage of the tournament along with Ireland, with Scotland and West Indies eliminated.

In Group A, favourites Sri Lanka finished top and Holland progressed as runners-up, with Namibia and the UAE missing out. 

Ervine’s side now move into the perhaps slightly easier group of six in the Super 12, facing Bangladesh, India, Holland, Pakistan and South Africa.

Second-placed Ireland, meanwhile, will clash with Afghanistan, Australia, England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in a tough-looking group. 

Although Ervine and Raza both fell before the end of the run chase, Ryan Burl smashed Safyaan Sharif over mid-on for four to seal the victory with an over and a half remaining.

Zimbabwe then shared passionate celebrations in front of their joyful fans at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart, Australia.
