Sean Dyche admits Arsenal have the look of champions after his Everton side were hammered 4-0

Sean Dyche has admitted that Arsenal have the look of Premier League champions after his side were hammered 4-0 at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta’s high-flying Gunners opened up a five point gap on Manchester City on Wednesday night, with both sides now having played the same number of games.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli netted in the first-half to put Arsenal in command, before the Brazilian added another late on after Martin Odegaard had also got in on the act.

Reflecting on his side’s humbling defeat, Dyche – who triumphed over Arteta with a 1-0 win at Goodison Park on his first game in charge – hailed Arsenal’s work ethic and described them as having the look of title winners.

‘They played well in the first period but they couldn’t break us down, and that was pleasing for us, lots of teams have to do that at places like this, we know that,’ Dyche told Premier League Productions.

‘Second half they showed what a side they are.

‘I said to my players, “what you’ve got to remember is it’s not just about their ability”. At the end they’re closing down, they’re pressing, they save one off the line because they’re throwing bodies at it.

‘That’s what wins titles. That’s the feeling of a group that wins titles.

‘I’m not saying they’ve won it by any means, Man City are fantastic but you look at their work ethic.

‘They knew because they came to Goodison, we put in a real shift and gathered a way of playing to protect a lead as well and seeing the game through, they [Arsenal] responded.

‘That’s what I said to the players, “the top teams learn, now it’s about us learning”.’

Arsenal will try to maintain their lead at the top of the table when they host Bournemouth on Saturday. Man City, who are playing Newcastle in the lunchtime kick off, will attempt to pile the pressure on the Gunners and close the gap up before Arsenal kick-off. 

Everton, who travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, are floundering in 18th place, picking up six points out of a possible 15 since Dyche took over.
