Shell’s green chief Thomas Brostrom quits after switch

Shell’s head of renewable generation Thomas Brostrom leaving company weeks after chief executive scaled back company’s green transition plans

Shell’s head of renewable generation Thomas Brostrom is leaving the company weeks after chief executive Wael Sawan scaled back the company’s green transition plans.

Brostrom joined Shell from the offshore wind giant Orsted in August 2021 as previous chief executive Ben van Beurden moved to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

He quickly became head of renewables in February 2022.

But Sawan, who took over the top job in January, announced on June 14 a shift back to oil and gas production while paring back investments in renewables following investor pressure on the company to focus on the most profitable businesses.

‘Thomas Brostrøm has elected to leave Shell to pursue an external opportunity,’ the company said.
