Solskjaer claims current Utd ‘snowflakes’ would have struggled to survive under in Sir Alex Ferguson

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that several players from the current Manchester United squad would have struggled to survive in Sir Alex Ferguson‘s dressing room. 

Solskjaer explained how the environment at Old Trafford was completely different during his time as a player at the club and labelled the current squad as ‘snowflakes’.

The former United forward revealed how there were a ‘few fights’ in the changing rooms after ‘bad games’ and explained how they would ‘shake each other up’.

Solskjaer – who went on to manage United – said the current crop would crumble under the same circumstances and even call their parents to intervene. 

Speaking to The Athletic, Solskjaer said: ‘The lads in that dressing room were absolutely fantastic. Keano was the leader, the one everyone looked up to.

The former United forward revealed how there were a ‘few fights’ in the changing rooms 

‘David May was the joker, the clown. Gary (Neville) is still the busiest and was the busiest back then as well. Nicky (Butt) and Giggsy (Ryan Giggs) were the entertainers.

‘It was just a fantastic dressing room. Winners, who hated losing. They had a few fights, like you should do, after bad games. You had to shake each other up.

‘If you do that to the boys now, they will get their dad, or their mum, or their agents… snowflakes. Not many of today’s lot would have survived in that dressing room.’

Solskjaer had a hugely successful career at Manchester United during 1996 and 2007, before returning to Old Trafford as their manager in 2019.

However, Solskjaer was sacked from his role as the Man United boss in November 2021 after the club’s 4-1 defeat to Watford continued a catastrophic run of results.

The Norwegian manager had lost seven of his last 13 games in charge, forcing the club to take action and relieve him of his duties.

Many blamed Manchester United’s dressing room revolt for the downfall of his tenure at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer reportedly irked the squad be elevating Harry Maguire to captain just six months after joining the club.

The England centre back was signed in an £80million deal from Leicester in August 2019 but by January 2020 he was handed the armband on a permanent basis.

Solskjaer’s tactics and favouritism were also lambasted, as several members of the squad reportedly asked him why he is so against changing a losing team.

Some felt Maguire fell into that category of favouritism and reports even stated that Eric Bailly fell out with the Manchester United boss over it. 

Bailly reportedly asked Solskjaer why he had picked Maguire – ‘who was not fit’ – in their Premier League defeat by Leicester in 2021. 

The Ivory Coast international was left out for Maguire, despite having only returned to full training following a calf injury the day prior to their 4-2 defeat.

Other members of the squad reportedly challenged Solskjaer amid his omission of midfielders Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard and Nemanja Matic.
