South Africa director of rugby Rassie Erasmus apologises to fans as he’s left red-faced after retweeting graphic pornography in an apparent ‘hack’… and says he can’t delete the post!

  • A porn video was retweeted on the feed of ex-Springboks’ coach Rassie Erasmus
  • Erasmus claimed ‘hackers’ are the ones responsible for getting it on his feed
  • The South African sought help from his 89,000 followers on how to undo it
  • He later claimed the faux-pas had been rectified, only for the video to still show

Rassie Erasmus found himself red-faced on Saturday morning when a video of graphic pornography appeared on his Twitter feed.

Erasmus, 49, put the retweeting of the pornographic material down to ‘hackers’ before he sought advice from his 89,500 followers on how to remove the retweet himself.

‘Sorry guys about that inapropriate [sic] tweets!!’ he first tweeted.

‘The handle has been hacked!! Reallly [sic] sorry about that!! I am trying to sort it out !!! Rassie.’

Erasmus, South Africa’s director of rugby, stressed that he himself had not interacted with XNXN Video’s tweet and that his account had been compromised on Saturday morning, leaving him scrambling to delete it.

‘Guys the hackers still seem to have the retweet from earlier appearing in some places although it has been deleted on my side and reported. Hopefully my account will be sorted shortly. Rassie,’ he added.

Despite his assertion that the tweet had been deleted, it continued to show up, leading to some of his followers believing his lack of tech-savvy was preventing him from clearing up the retweet faux-pas.

Some of his followers were at pains to explain to Erasmus how to un-do a retweet.

‘Guys and ladies thanks for the advice to undo the retweet!! It is deleted on my account, but I did not retweet it!! The moment I delete it pops up again somewhere else! Appreciate the corncern [sic],’ he added.

This is not the first time that Erasmus’ behaviour on Twitter has put him under the spotlight.

In July last year the Springboks director of rugby was accused of using an alter-ego on the social media platform to hit out at the British & Irish Lions.

Erasmus retweeted two posts by a user under the name Jaco Johan, who only had two visible posts on the account.

Therefore, it was widely assumed that he was behind the Jaco Johan Twitter account.

The biography for that account stated: ‘I am Rassie’s voice when he is too nervous to say something himself! Watch the space — some good stuff on its way.’ On that account, there was seemingly no sense of nervousness about addressing contentious issues.

Fans were soon convinced that Erasmus was the man behind the account, particularly given his first name is Johan.

When quizzed on if he is using an alter-ego on Twitter, Erasmus flatly denied the suggestions.

‘No I’m actually not Jaco Johan, I’m Rassie Erasmus,’ he told reporters.

‘I actually follow Jaco Johan. He’s a big supporter of us. He’s been feeding me some really good clips for a while now, things that I’ve actually used in the past.

‘He’s a very big supporter, a really funny guy and I quite enjoy the things that he does.’
