The images that show Carlos Alcaraz only has eyes for a Wimbledon final showdown with Novak Djokovic

World number one Carlos Alcaraz is building for a Wimbledon showdown with Novak Djokovic – and clearly has his eyes on the 23-time Grand Slam winner.

Alcaraz, 20, is the top seed at the All England Club, and is yet to drop a set ahead of his third round match with Chile’s Nicolas Jarry.

The Spanish young gun eased past Alexandre Muller of France 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 in the second round – but his 41 unforced errors will be a cause for concern.

In the lead up to his match against Muller, Alcaraz was spotted intently watching Djokovic on the practice courts.

With the Serbian, 36, seeded two, the pair are on a potential collision course for the final come July 17.

Their career head to head record stands at 1-1, with Djokovic beating the rising star at Roland Garros earlier this year in the semis before going onto win the French Open.

Alcaraz – the youngest ever world no.1 – won their first meeting in 2022 at the Madrid Open, with both matches on clay.

Incredibly, Alcaraz is playing in only his fourth tournament on grass, but is improving each outing.

He also won recently at Queen’s, a traditional warm up tournament in London ahead of Wimbledon, beating Aussie Alex de Minaur in the final.

‘I’m really, really happy,’ Alcaraz said courtside after outclassing Muller. ‘It is important to start the tournament well, to have great feelings.  

‘I’m playing at a good level, getting better every match. Playing here at Wimbledon is something special.’

A promoter’s dream at Wimbledon would be Alcarez against Novak Djokovic, who is the defending champion and seven-time winner

Fans at Wimbledon are also sensing a changing of the guard.

Alcaraz is the first Wimbledon top seed since 2003 not named Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray or Djokovic.

Aussie tennis fans may also recall the no.1 seed 20 years ago – Lleyton Hewitt, who won the tournament in 2002.
