Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte are charged with improper conduct by the FA

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel and Tottenham counterpart Antonio Conte have been charged with improper conduct following Sunday’s Premier League match at Stamford Bridge, the Football Association has announced.

Tuchel and Conte were both charged by the Football Association on Monday evening.

‘Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte have both been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3, following the Premier League fixture between Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday 14 August 2022,’ an FA statement read.

‘It is alleged that the behaviour of both managers was improper following the end of the fixture. Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte have until Thursday 18 August 2022 to provide their respective responses.’

Tuchel and Conte clashed during the game and they were both sent off after the full time whistle following a further disagreement when they went to shake hands.

Chelsea boss Tuchel was hugely frustrated by some of the decisions that were made by referee Taylor.

Taylor ignored Kai Havertz’s appeal for a foul following a challenge from Rodrigo Bentancur in the build-up to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s equaliser.

Officials also ignored Richarlison being in an offside position when Hojbjerg scored.

Ahead of Harry Kane’s late equaliser, Tottenham defender Cristian Romero pulled Marc Cucurella’s hair but he too wasn’t penalised.

Referee Anthony Taylor was criticised by Tuchel for some of the decisions that he made

Tuchel celebrated wildly after Reece James had made it 2-1 to Chelsea, with the German having previously clashed with Conte.

In his post-match press conference, Tuchel questioned why he would be banned while Taylor will still be able to officiate in the next round of fixtures.

Tuchel said: ‘Today? Yes [I have more of a problem with the referee].

‘Maybe that would be better [if he does not referee another Chelsea game]. I don’t think that [only] some of the fans think that [Taylor has made bad decisions against Chelsea].

‘I can assure you that the whole dressing room, every single person thinks that. The players know what’s going on and they’re on the pitch. Of course [they are worried when he takes charge of one of our games].

‘Both [Spurs] goals should not stand and then it’s a fair result. I cannot coach but the referee can whistle the next game. Good.’
