Thomas Tuchel is ready to give Ryan Gravenberch an improved role at Bayern Munich amid interest from Liverpool, the head coach has confirmed.

The former Chelsea boss joined Bayern Munich after the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann, but sees his side on the verge of a Champions League exit after a 3-0 fist leg defeat to Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

Gravenberch had reduced minutes under Nagelsmann despite signing for the German from Ajax in the summer for £16.3million just last year.

However, Tuchel has admitted that he is a fan of the 20-year-old and will hand him opportunities between now and the end of the season.

‘He did well when he was subbed on against Freiburg,’ he revealed. ‘I’m not thinking any further than Hoffenheim right now. He’s a candidate to start or to come on during the game.’

The German continued to open up on the impression that Gravenberch is leaving on him during training at Bayern Munich, admitting that he is impressed by the midfielder.

‘I see his qualities in training,’ Tuchel continued. ‘It’s hard to try things now.

‘He’s training well. He’s a No.8 who can turn and dribble very well. Now it’s about being patient. It’s about fighting to be there.’

With it previously reported that the Dutch international was frustrated by his lack of game time at Bayern Munich, playing just 26 times this season, he also missed out on Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad for the 2022 World Cup.

‘To be honest, yes I am [frustrated],’ Gravenberch revealed.

‘You want to play, but the manager chooses other players. I have to accept it, but it’s difficult. I was hoping for more minutes, but I have to be quiet in my head.

With Liverpool keen to bring the midfielder to Anfield in the summer, Tuchel will have to show a pathway for the future if he wishes to convince Gravenberch to remain in Munich rather than seek a Premier League move.

The Reds are also looking to rebuild their midfield with the likes of Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher from Chelsea linked while Matheus Nunes remains a long-term target.

However, they could face competition from Manchester United and Arsenal, who look more likely to offer Champions League football to the midfielder next season.
