There was agony for Team GB rower Vicky Thornley in the women’s single sculls as she just missed out on a bronze medal by half a second after an exciting finish.
Hopes were high for Thornley after racing through to the final in Tokyo, but she simply ran out of steam towards the end despite a valiant effort to seal a podium place, with Austria’s Magdalena Lobnig pipping her to bronze by just 0:33 seconds.
New Zealand‘s Emma Twigg claimed the gold medal after storming ahead and holding a dominant lead throughout.
