Tommy Fury WILL enter the WBC’s cruiserweight rankings following his win over Jake Paul

Tommy Fury will be placed in the WBC’s official cruiserweight rankings after his famous win over Jake Paul, the organisation has confirmed. 

The WBC had promised a spot to Paul if he had emerged victorious against his Love Island rival in Saudi Arabia, but after Fury secured a split decision win over the YouTuber, they have come good on their vow to honour the winner.

Fury will now be ranked in the WBC’s cruiserweight top 40 to add to a memorable evening as he shrugged off huge pressure to hand the American his first defeat, earning the WBC’s newly-made Diriyah Champion belt in the process. 

In their fight recap, they detailed how Fury – who with two scorecards of 76-73 – would now be recognised in their prestigious list.

‘With this win, Fury will be ranked in the World Boxing Council’s cruiserweight division, improving his record to 9-0, with 4 knockouts,’ they said.

Being ranked by the WBC will be the least of Fury’s concerns after overcoming what he describes as the weight of the world by getting one over Paul. 

‘For the past two and a half years this is all that consumed my life. Broken rib, denied access and everyone thought I was running scared. 

‘Tonight I made my own legacy. I am Tommy Fury. I want to dedicate this fight to my new baby girl Bambi at home and my Mrs. I love you and I can’t wait to see you. This fight was for you. This belt is for you Bambi I love you.’

‘I had a dream and a vision I would win this fight. No one believed me. Now I can stand up and everyone can take note. It’s my first main event at 23 years old. I had a world of pressure on me and I came through.

‘This to me is a world title fight. This was my dream and this was my destiny. This was my fate. I want to thank Saudi Arabia for having me. I love you all for having me and for turning out. You guys we did it. We did it.’

When asked whether he would be open to a rematch, Fury said: ‘100 per cent this is my first main event. I’m only going to stronger. I’m only going to bigger and better. There were a lot of nerves coming into it and I override that. If he wants a rematch, bring that.’
