Tottenham are set to table a formal offer for Leicester’s James Maddison

Tottenham are set to table a formal offer for Leicester attacker James Maddison in the region of £45million.

And there is growing confidence at the club that Tottenham will complete the signing of priority target Maddison.

Personal terms have already been verbally agreed, with Maddison set to earn £170,000 a week.

Incoming head coach Ange Postecoglou has identified the Leicester midfielder as a key transfer during the window, and the club are believed to have previously tabled an offer to sign both Maddison and his Foxes’ team-mate Harvey Barnes.  

Whilst the north London club may have to wait in their bid for Barnes, there is optimism that Maddison will plump for Spurs ahead of Newcastle, who have also been tracking the England star during the window.

During a difficult season at the King Power Stadium, Maddison has often proven a bright spark for the team. 

Maddison made 19 goal contributions in 32 appearances, and earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad off the back of a number of consistent showings for the Foxes. 

Leicester’s relegation at the end of the 2022-23 campaign means that Maddison’s departure is unlikely to be the only high profile exit. 

Meanwhile, the Foxes are interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks, who spent last season on loan at Sampdoria, as they prepare to fight for promotion next season under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

Spurs made their first signing of the window on Tuesday, securing the services of Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for £17m with a five-year deal. 

The club also made Dejan Kulusevski’s 18-month loan deal permanent after agreeing a cut-price £25m fee. 

But much of the attention during the window will fall on talismanic striker Harry Kane, who has just one year left on his contract and a lingering question mark over whether he will stay or go. 

Manchester United are the England captain’s most ardent suitors but the Premier League side have been somewhat deterred by Kane’s high price tag and chairman Daniel Levy’s unwillingness to sell to a domestic rival. 

Bayern Munich are believed to have made a £60m offer for the striker that he is open to discussing further, but Tottenham remain adamant that Kane is strictly not for sale.
