Twitter is down as tens of thousands of users receive a ‘Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint.’

The issue appears with all links on the social media platform and tweets embedded in outside news articles. Images and videos shared in tweets are also not appearing on the site.

One user, who is a computer science professor at Princeton University in New Jersey, believes the ‘error’ is because Twitter is charging itself for API access – ‘but Twitter couldn’t afford to pay.’

Musk’s responded to the outage about one hour after it appeared, tweeting that ‘this platform is so brittle (sigh). Will be fixed shortly.’

Issue reports began to appear on DownDectector, a website that monitors online outages, around 11:30 am ET.

And the website and smartphone app are both impacted by the outage.
