Two senior Manchester United players were allegedly pulled apart during a bust-up that brought a training session to a premature end on Thursday, according to a new report.

The Sun, who detailed the alleged altercation, explained that players were reportedly stunned by the incident in the first United training session since their humiliating 4-0 Premier League mauling at Brighton.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick reportedly saw the alleged altercation and then granted more time off to United’s players, who are said to have had four days to recover from the dismal defeat at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

Tempers ‘boiled over’ as a result of a dismal season, training and a disconnect between the players and Rangnick, the report claimed.

Sportsmail understands the report into the clash has ‘overblown’ the nature of the alleged bust-up at their Carrington training base ahead of next Sunday’s final match of the season with Crystal Palace.

Tactician Rangnick was appointed United boss following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November but has been unable to rescue his side’s season.

United have lost three of their last five games by an aggregate score of 11-1, shipping three goals at Arsenal and four at Liverpool before their hammering at Brighton.

The former Champions League winners could be in the Europa Conference League next season if seventh-placed West Ham overhaul them in their final two games of the campaign.

The Hammers are three points behind United ahead of their hosting of leaders Manchester City and trip to Brighton, while the only remaining match of United’s season is at Crystal Palace on May 22.

Incoming permanent manager Erik ten Hag will have a plethora of issues to deal with when he arrives at Old Trafford in July.

Rangnick questioned what he had seen at training sessions in April and said the club needed ‘open-heart surgery’.

Club legend Paul Scholes also claimed that attacker Jesse Lingard had told him the United dressing room was a ‘disaster’.

Ten Hag secured the Dutch title in emphatic fashion on Wednesday as Ajax hammered Heerenveen 5-0 at home to build an unassailable lead over PSV Eindhoven at the top of the Eredivisie table.
