Any fears that the United States of America’s main talisman would miss the Round of 16 tie with the Netherlands seem to be dwindling.

According to Fox Sports’ Jenny Taft, star winger Christian Pulisic told her, ‘I’ll be good’ to go for the match on Saturday.

The Chelsea man suffered a pelvic contusion while in the process of scoring the lone goal in the USMNT’s 1-0 win over Iran that sent them through to the knockout stages.

According to Taft, USA attacker Josh Sargent is also a concern with a calf injury. Sargent started the game against Iran in the No 9 role.

But it is Pulisic’s health that is the biggest talking point going into the game. He was hurt as he scored against Iran in the 37th minute, bravely converting Sergino Dest’s header.

He was down for around five minutes and needed helping off the field by two medics from the US team.

The 24-year-old made it back on and played the remaining minutes of the first half but didn’t come back out for the second half – being replaced by Brendan Aaronson.

He was taken to a nearby hospital in Qatar for checks as his team held on for a nervy victory to reach the last-16.

And as the emotional USA celebrations unfolded, Pulisic sent a message to his team from his hospital bed.

‘So f***ing proud of my guys I’ll be ready Saturday don’t worry,’ Pulisic wrote.

The United States will be fighting for the chance to advance to the quarterfinals – 20 years after they made it that far for the first time in the modern era of the World Cup.

In that 2002 World Cup, the Americans fell 1-0 to eventual runners up Germany thanks to a Michael Ballack goal in the 39′.

Since appearing in the World Cup in 1990, the Americans have made the knockout stage four times, but have only reached the quarterfinals that one time in 2002.

So far this tournament, the USMNT have scored two goals and conceded only one in their opening match against Wales.
