Chicago White Sox minor league pitcher Anderson Comas has publicly come out as gay in a post on Instagram.

Comas – who was initially an outfielder who transitioned to being a pitcher in 2022 – said that he was doing this to inspire others who share his situation.

‘Disclaimer: if you’re homophobic this post is may not for you or maby [sic] yes so you can see we all matters and we all are the same,’ Comas’ post began.

‘This may be my most personal thing I ever share and it’s that I’m proudly and happily part of the LGTBQ+ community.

‘I’m also a human with a great soul, I’m respectful, I’m a lover, I love my family and friends and that’s what really matters, I enjoy my work a lot

‘Being a professional baseball player is the best thing that happened to me so I just wanna say something to those people that says that gay people can not be someone in this life

‘Well look at me I’m Gay and I’m a professional athlete so that didn’t stopped me to make my dreams come true

‘I’m doing this cause I wanna be an inspiration for those like me out there fitting for their dreams, please don’t listen to those stupid things that people say about us, fight for your dreams, believe in yourself and go for it.’

The White Sox posted a statement on their Twitter account supporting Comas’ decision and who he is.

‘Anderson first shared his news with us last year,’ read a statement from White Sox assistant GM Chris Getz. ‘And I was very pleased that he was comfortable sharing with us in player development.

‘I also was happy at the reaction across the organization, which as you would expect was to support, help and congratulate a teammate.

‘With his social media post today, we all are so proud of Anderson and that he is comfortable sharing such an important personal part of his life so openly.’

Chicago signed the Dominican-born Comas in 2016 to a minor league contract and he’s spent most of his time playing in rookie leagues being promoted as high as Single-A ball.

In the 2022 season, he moved from being an outfielder to being a relief pitcher – playing in 11 games in the Arizona Complex League.

Last season, Solomon Bates – a pitcher in the San Francisco Giants’ system – also came out as gay and is currently is the only other active MiLB player to be out.

The first openly gay player in Minor League Baseball was former Milwaukee Brewers player David Denson – who came out in 2015.

No active Major League Baseball players have come out. However, former MLBers Billy Bean and Glenn Burke both came out once their playing careers had ended.

Late last year, former Cleveland Guardians pitcher T.J. House came out while announcing his engagement.
