In one of the most highly anticipated matches of the World Cup, England and the United States re-hashed their rivalry but found no victor.

Back in the USA, Americans celebrated the result having managed to get past the toughest team in Group B without dropping any points.

It also continues the Americans’ perfect record against the English – with the USMNT never having lost to the Three Lions at a World Cup.

To celebrate, fans recalled an infamous headline the New York Post released from the 2010 World Cup after the US drew England again which read ‘USA Wins 1-1’. In the aftermath, calls on Twitter to recreate it grew louder with ‘USA Wins 0-0’ trending on the social media platform – while Bleacher Report mocked up their own idea.

One Twitter user asked, ‘Gonna need the USA Wins 0-0 sequel to this classic. @nypost’

The draw means the United States’ chances of advancing to the knockout stages improve – with a win needed over Iran to secure a spot.

But with that game on Tuesday, Americans took some time to celebrate now and took to Twitter to do just that.

‘USA WINS 0-0!!!’ wrote Dan LeBatard show producer Mike Ryan Ruiz sent out.

‘Friendly reminder that the United States had never lost to England in the World Cup. USA WINS 0-0,’ another twitter user posted.

The celebrations in America continued – as one user wrote ‘USA WINS 0-0 FEELING PATRIOTIC FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE’.

In addition to a meme, an American based sportsbook wrote ‘USA WINS 0-0, ITS CALLED SOCCER NOWWWWW.’

This result didn’t just bring joy to Americans, with @ODDSBible tweeting out an image of a celebratory Scotland team with the caption, ‘Scotland fans seeing USA win 0-0 against England tonight.’

Despite the draw, the work isn’t over for the USMNT. They’ll need a victory against Iran when the sides meet this Tuesday.
