Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was unable to hide his disbelief after his side played out a goalless draw against Everton in an exciting Merseyside derby.

The Reds went close to scoring on multiple occasions, only to be denied by an outstanding Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal and the woodwork.

The Toffess themselves also went close as Tom Davies hit the post, Alisson denied Neal Maupay for debut goal and Conor Coady had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR.

After the game, Klopp told BT Sport: ‘Wow! What can you do? In this game, easy, free flowing is not possible. You have to dig in really deep, which we did. 0-0 sounds strange, but that’s it.

‘It’s the derby, super intense, with a lot of really spectacular moments. They scored the goal, I didn’t watch it back. Ally with a sensational save.

‘I didn’t see that back, but I don’t know how that didn’t go in. But I’m not sure how many chances we had.

Man of the match Jordan Pickford was in exceptional form at Goodison Park as he was able to deny Liverpool more than once in the game.

The England international is confident that the club can push on now and start to win in the Premier League, a feat they have yet to manage this season. 

He said: ‘You’ve got to be in the moment. I thought I had a good game today, I was right in the moment, helping the lads.

‘You need leaders on the pitch. You saw the team spirit around us. We didn’t get the three points, but we can keep building now.

‘Allison made some wonderful saves as well. That’s our job, to help the team when needed. It’s my first clean sheet of the season, and it’s another building block for us as a team to get better and get better.

‘It’s hard work, it’s commitment, we’ll keep building, we’ll get stronger, we’ll get the wins.’
