Essex’s County Championship and Vitality Blast-winning coach Anthony McGrath will join England’s backroom team for the Twenty20 series starting in Barbados next week.

With the build-up to the five matches against West Indies clashing with the end of the Ashes, the ECB were forced to split their full-time coaching resources and recruit extra personnel.

It was previously announced that England assistant coach Paul Collingwood would lead the trip with Marcus Trescothick his deputy and it has now been confirmed that McGrath will be batting coach, Worcestershire’s Alan Richardson bowling coach and Somerset’s Paul Tweddle will oversee fielding.

McGrath and Richardson were a part of the England coaching set-up last summer for the Royal London Series victory over Pakistan.

While Tweddle – the youngest coach to pass the ECB’s level four qualification at the age of 24 in 2013 – was selected for the first time following interview processes for each of the roles.

England play all five internationals, which will begin the build-up to this year’s Twenty20 World Cup in Australia, at the Kensington Oval between January 22-30.
