It was the hot-headed punch-up that many could scarcely believe, but a boxing promoter is hoping to convince Dane Gagai and Matt Burton to do it all over again after last night’s Origin war.

A ferocious battle between Queensland and New South Wales escalated on Wednesday after NRL stars Gagai and Burton swung punches at one another in the second half of the Maroons’ win at Suncorp Stadium.

Gagai, unhappy with Burton going through the back of Kalyn Ponga, charged at the Bulldogs star with all guns blazing, landing a couple of heavy blows as the five-eighth fought fire with fire.

Queensland teammate Tino Fa’asuamaleaui came hurtling to the scene, wrestling Burton to the ground as the two Maroons stars out-muscled their rival.

The incident sparked huge debate across Australia, with some fans opining that the clash reignited Origin after years of stagnation – the last fight came in 2013 when Paul Gallen punched Nate Myles.

However, others have condemned the scrap, with Gagai and Fa’asuamaleaui coming in for criticism.

And now boxing promoter George Rose – who looks after Tim and Nikita Tszyu – has offered to provide a platform for both men to settle their differences in the ring, adding that the brothers could help Burton out after he was left with a bloodied cheek.

‘I would love to see Gagai v Burton in the ring,’ Rose, chief executive of No Limit Boxing, said via News Corp.

‘I might have to send a few blokes out to help out Burton get ready for the fight. Gagai certainly has some boxing talent.’

Rose also expressed his desire for big men Junior Paulo and Fa’asuamaleaui to clash in the ring. Paulo is set to make his boxing debut at the end of the season while fans would be eager to see the Queensland star fight after his role in the Gagai – Burton scrap.

‘Tino was lucky big Junior wasn’t on the field,’ Rose said. ‘Junior must’ve been frothing at the bit ready to come flying in. I don’t think there is anyone in the NRL who could beat Junior.

‘I’m not sure if Tino is keen to fight but there is always a home for him at No Limit if he wants to test himself.’
