Barcelona have announced Ousmane Dembele has agreed a new contract until the summer of 2024, bringing an end to months of transfer speculation.

The 25-year-old, who was briefly a free agent, after seeing his original deal with the Catalan giants expire at the end of last month will now remain at the LaLiga giants.

The news will come as a significant blow to Chelsea, who were targeting the Frenchman this summer, to help bolster their options in attack.

The club and player had been discussing a new deal for months but they struggled to reach any common ground. As a result, his contract expired on June 30.

However, despite being a free agent, Dembele had little interest from other clubs and subsequently returned to the negotiating table with Barcelona.

Boss Xavi has always made wingers his absolute priority since taking over the club from Ronald Koeman last season.

He has fought for Dembele to stay when other voices at the club had wanted him gone.

He even insisted on picking him when there were those at the club who wanted him sidelined to force his hand over signing a new deal.

It has now been agreed and confirmed on social media by the Catalan giants with an announcement video that has been heavily criticised by fans.

Fans have taken to social media to question how ‘poor’ the Catalan giants are with their budget announcement video.

One fan said: ‘That’s the worst contract extension clip I have ever seen. That tissue is soaked with tears me thinks.

Another added: ‘They’re so poor they have to use a whiteboard as a announcement video.

A third posted: ‘They don’t even have money for a decent edited video.

While another simply tweeted: ‘They couldn’t even afford a whiteboard duster.’

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Twitter earlier today that the paperwork was done on a new two-year contract and that the Catalan giants were due to announce the news later today.

His tweet read: ‘Paperworks completed for Ousmane Dembélé: new contract signed until June 2024, official statement and unveiling with Barcelona scheduled later today.

‘Xavi wanted both Dembele and Raphinha… he will end up with both Dembele and Raphinha.’

Dembele originally joined the LaLiga giants in a blockbuster transfer from Borussia Dortmund back in 2017.

The French winger has gone to make 150 appearances, despite suffering numerous injuries during his five-year spell at the Nou Camp.

During that time he has scored 32 times and added a further 34 assists.
