IN THE MONEY: Newcastle are set to bank more than £10m from Amazon’s  ‘All or Nothing’ documentary

Newcastle are set to bank more than £10m from a highly lucrative fly-on-the-wall documentary series with Amazon Prime, due to be aired ahead of next season.

It is understood the club are banking a similar amount to Manchester City for allowing Amazon to film behind the scenes at St James’ Park. Sources confirmed the deal is worth eight figures.

The four-part series, due to be aired in August, will focus on the club and its owners as they reached their first cup final in 24 years and likely Champions League qualification.

It is also believed that major transfer deals such as the £45m January signing of Anthony Gordon from Everton will feature.

The club’s ongoing HMRC investigation and a rumoured Premier League investigation into their ownership structure are less likely to be covered.

WES BROWN DECLARED BANKRUPT 

Former England and Manchester United star Wes Brown was declared bankrupt after racking up a six-figure debt with HMRC and falling behind on car repayments.

On The Money can reveal that the two creditors petitioned for the 43-year-old Brown to be made bankrupt. 

Remarkably, Brown, who won 23 England caps, owed just a few thousand pounds to the car finance company, revealing the desperate state of the former defender’s financial situation.

Sources close to Brown, described as one of the nicest men in football, believe he lost most of his money through bad property deals. 

He and Real Housewives of Cheshire star wife Leanne also spent heavily trying to maintain a lavish footballer lifestyle, before paying out on a costly divorce.

A source close to Brown, who made over 200 appearances for United between 1998 and 2011, said: ‘It may seem like Wes was earning big money — to most people he was — but the trouble was he was also trying to keep up with the lifestyle of teammates earning five or six times more than he was.

‘Most of his money disappeared in bad property deals. He overpaid on the farm that Leanne lives in. He spent something like £6m or £7m to buy that. They have tried to sell it but haven’t managed to, even after lowering the price to £4.75m. Any money left is tied up in the farm. 

‘A previous property of theirs was once listed at £4.5m but took seven years to sell, finally going for £2.4million — almost half price.’

Leanne also wrote off £500,000 she believed was owed by former Housewives co-star Dawn Ward.

It is understood former United team-mates including Wayne Rooney and current Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick have rallied around Brown, who is thought to be renting a modest property off United striker Marcus Rashford ‘at mates’ rates.’

BRADY LOOKS TO RECONFIGURE BETWAY PACKAGE 

West Ham’s vice-chair Baroness Karren Brady would like to broker a deal with main club sponsors Betway to get the gambling firm off the club’s shirts and maybe on to the London Stadium roof as part of a naming rights deal.

Brady has been talking openly about her desire to get a naming rights deal in place for years, and industry sources have told In The Money that a reconfigured Betway package is attractive to her. But the process may not be smooth.

First, West Ham have tried and failed to secure a naming rights partner in the seven years they have been resident at the former London 2012 Olympic stadium.

Betting companies will no longer be allowed on the front of players’ shirts from 2026

Deals with companies ranging from Vodafone to the Indian multinational conglomerate Mahindra Group have been mooted and come to nothing in the past.

Secondly, it’s understood Betway are happy with their current £10m-a-year arrangement of being the club’s principle sponsor until 2025. 

Insiders acknowledge the club and the betting firm have a great commercial relationship and at some point, not necessarily soon, they will ‘sit down together to discuss what the future could look like’.

Under rule changes announced by the Premier League that will take effect from 2026, betting companies will no longer be allowed on the front of players’ shirts.
