Inter manager Simone Inzaghi ‘holds a three-hour meeting with club chiefs to discuss transfer targets including Kalidou Koulibaly – as they plot talks with Chelsea over loan for defender’

  • Simone Inzaghi met with Inter chiefs yesterday to talk about transfer targets
  • Kalidou Koulibaly has been outlined as a major target for his three-man defence
  • Officials from Inter and Chelsea will meet soon to discuss multiple players

Inter Milan are keen to sign Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly on loan, according to Italian press reports.

Manager Simone Inzaghi met club executives, including chairman Steven Zhang, to discuss their transfer market ambitions in a three-hour meeting on Tuesday.

And alongside other targets their main focus is now on luring Koulibaly back to Serie A, as per Corriere dello Sport

The news comes after Sky Sport Italia reported that sporting director Piero Ausilio will fly to London in the coming days to meet with Chelsea representatives.

The Champions League finalists will be eager to replace Milan Skriniar, who confirmed a pre-contract agreement with Paris Saint Germain back in January.

Koulibaly struggled to find consistency as Chelsea stumbled to 12th this season but in eight years at Napoli he became one of the world’s best defenders.

It is also understood that the Nerazzurri, who finished third in Serie A, will look into the possibility of renewing Romelu Lukaku’s loan from the Blues.

Despite being ridiculed for his performance against Manchester City last weekend, the Belgian marksman still scored 14 goals this season, including the strike that edged them past Porto in the last 16 on their run to Istanbul.

The former Serie A winner has indicated that he would like to stay at the San Siro, but Chelsea would be happy to have him back for next season

The London outfit hold an interest in Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana, who only moved from Ajax to Italy last summer.

In what could be a busy summer for Inter, the signing of Koulibaly – even if only on loan – would be a major coup in their bid to regain the Scudetto.

However, Koulibaly released an Instagram post two weeks ago which implied that he saw his immediate future at Stamford Bridge.

He said: ‘Chelsea fans. Your support has been a shining light in a difficult season for us all. Everything we do on the pitch is for you and this season it was no way near enough; no excuses.

‘We will fight to make you proud again and I won’t stop until that happens. 2023/24 starts now. Thank you and see you soon’.
