Ivory Coast were 2-1 up in the African Cup of Nations clash when the incident took place. There were just seconds left on the clock when the ball was headed back to the goalkeeper.

Ali Sangare ran out to collect the ball to prevent it from going over the back line for a corner. However, it slipped out of his hands as he tripped and fell over.

Steven Caulker was quick to react and latched onto the loose ball. After getting it under contract, Caulker squared it to Kamara – who calmly played it into the back of the net.

Ali Sangare lay on the grass injured while Kamara and his team-mates went to celebrate. This was cause for major concern for Ivory Coast.

Patrice Beaumelle’s side had already made their five substitutes and were unable to bring on their second choice goalkeeper.

Therefore, right-back Aurier was forced to step up and take Ali Sangare’s place between the sticks.

The game ended 2-2 and fans took to social media to react to Ali Sangare’s blunder and Aurier’s performance in goal.

One fan wrote: ‘Are these AFCON games fixed. Wtf was that keeping from the Ivory Coast keeper’.

Another added: ‘If you think you had a bad day today.. Just look at the Ivorians goal keeper. Life hard’.

Meanwhile, some fans felt sorry for Ali Sangare. One user wrote: ‘The Ivory Coast goalkeeper Sangare for just kick that ball into the stands. I felt for him. He was already in tears before the goal was scored.’

Several fans commented on the state of the pitch, saying: ‘State of some the pitches gotta feel for that ivory coast keeper’.

Another added: ‘Agenda aside, the pitch really did the Ivory Coast keeper dirty.’
