Rumours of Alex Carey not paying for haircut rubbished by Cricket Australia

Wild rumours run rampant about Ashes villain Alex Carey not paying for a haircut, sparking fiery response from Cricket Australia

  • Cricket Australia rubbish claims Alex Carey didn’t pay for his haircut
  • UK barber claimed Carey had left without paying
  • Cricket Australia say it was a different player who paid by bank transfer

Cricket Australia has rubbished claims that Ashes villain Alex Carey failed to pay for his haircut at a barber while on tour in England.

Adam Majmood told The Sun newspaper that the Australian wicketkeeper had a deadline of Monday to pay for his trim – the end of the third Test – after allegedly leaving without paying at the cash-only barber.

The Leeds barber alleged Carey had promised he would pay later as he had no notes on him.

Carey has been public enemy number one in the UK after his controversial stumping of English cricketer Jonny Bairstow in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s.

Carey, alongside teammates Marnus Labuschagne, 29, David Warner and Usman Khawaja, both 36, are said to have turned up for a quick snip on the eve of the third Test at Headingley.

Majmood claimed while the others posed for snaps and paid for their haircuts, Carey refused to have his picture taken and left without paying.

However, Cricket Australia has flat-out denied the allegation, stating the wicketkeeper didn’t even get a haircut and it was a different player.

It is understood the squad member paid for the haircut by international transfer immediately, having not realised the hairdresser didn’t accept card payment.

The Aussie player is said to have the receipt which he will take to the barber to clear his and Carey’s names later today.

‘He says ‘One of them, I think Alex is his name’. I said ‘Alex Carey, wicketkeeper?’ Cook said.

‘He says ‘he hasn’t paid’. It was one of those cash-only barbers and he promised him he would do a transfer later on in the day.’
