New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was tossed from his team’s game against the Cincinnati Reds in the first inning after an overturned foul ball call.

With the Reds’ Jonathan India on first base, Cincinnati’s Spencer Steer flared a ball down the first base line.

Right fielder Jake Bauers ran over to try and make a play on the ball, only for it to pop out of his glove. His bobbling attempts to corral the ball were in vain as it dropped to his side.

First base umpire Nestor Ceja threw both his hands up to indicate it was a foul ball, but India continued to run home – eventually reaching it before going back to first base.

But upon further review, Bauers touched the ball in fair territory, only bobbling it out and foul. Reds manager David Bell challenged the call and overturned it, meaning the run scored.

Boone exited the dugout furious and began arguing his case with second base umpire Brian O’Nora – saying that Ceja’s decision to call it foul meant the Yankees thought the play was dead and therefore, they didn’t make a play to the plate.

But O’Nora seemingly had enough of Boone, ejecting him despite it only being the first inning.

Boone became irate, furiously yelling at O’Nora before going over to Ceja and yelling at him as well.

The Yankees continued the remainder of the game without their skipper and managed to score runs via a Harrison Bader two-run home run in the fifth inning.

And the Yankees went on to record a 4-1 victory on Sunday, taking their record for the season to 29-20.

After the game, Boone spoke to YES Network explaining his anger and what happened out in the infield with O’Nora.

‘It clearly was a fair ball and we knew that,’ Boone explained. ‘And then when they said he scored, I took exception to that.’

‘[I] at least wanted to know the explanation for it and didn’t really get that. Basically just saying, you can’t argue this. I said I want the explanation. But in the end, I think the way the ball trickled away, I think you can make the case he scores there.’

Later, Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell was also ejected from the contest. That marked the first time this season both managers were tossed from a game.

Boone was also tossed earlier this week against the Blue Jays earlier this week for furiously arguing with plate umpire Clint Vondrak over a slider that was below the zone but called a strike against Aaron Judge.

It prompted the arguing between dugouts that prompted questions of whether Aaron Judge was receiving signals over the upcoming Blue Jays pitch due to his sideways glances before hitting a huge home run.

Judge said he was instead trying not to get distracted by the unrest in the two camps.
