Thomas Tuchel has said Bayern Munich must work together as a team to control Manchester City striker Erling Haaland during their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Manchester City host Bayern Munich in Tuesday’s quarter-final first leg on the back of eight consecutive victories and with the Premier League title race now in their hands.

Tuchel has said his team will have to work together to contain Haaland given his impressive goalscoring record for the Premier League giants – having netted 44 times so far this season.

Haaland continued his unprecedented goalscoring form against Southampton by adding a second with an acrobatic finish inside the penalty box to mark his 30th goal of the Premier League season after just 27 appearances.

On whether Manchester City’s style has changed since the arrival of Haaland, Tuchel said: ‘Not so much. The style is still the same [as before he arrived] and the patterns of play are the same.

‘Of course, the style of Erling Haaland is very unique and they have adapted to fit him in. He offers them something they haven’t had in recent years.

‘We have to do it as a team. Tomorrow, we will have the role of the underdog and that is okay. We have to stay confident and stay on top of our game.’

Tuchel went on to discuss the game as a whole. He said: ‘I am sure that there will be moments where we will suffer. But we also want moments where we can play against them and hurt them. We have the quality and talent in the squad.’

The German manager went on to add: ‘For tomorrow we will analyse the City games of the last few weeks. I was active in the league here as a manager myself.

‘We think that we have a good understanding of what we can expect. We want to prevent them from getting too dominant.’

The two teams will head into Tuesday’s game with three wins apiece. City won the most recent meeting, back in 2014-15, to draw level in the match-up as both sides have three victories to their name.

The fixture on Tuesday will also represent a reunion for Pep Guardiola at the club where he famously failed to win the competition, but had widespread success in all other competitions in his three-year stay in Bavaria.

City will face two German sides in successive rounds of the competition, after defeating RB Leipzig in the previous round.
